A Steve Morse Band show is recorded and filmed for the German TV program 'Ohne Filter' on March 21. The band also plays at the Musik Messe in Frankfurt. The Steve Morse Band tours in October opening for the John McLaughlin Trio. Biff Baby's Allstars do four shows in Japan at the end of November and early December.     Biff Baby's Allstars are joined by Eddie Van Halen for their show in Malibu, CA on January 17. 'Southern Steel' is released in February. The Steve Morse Band tours from late April until the end of July. Steve Morse rejoins Kansas for a tour from late August until the end of November. The Steve Morse Band is the opening act for several shows.     The Dixie Dregs reunite for a tour in February. Two shows at the Center Stage in Atlanta, GA on February 14 and 15 are recorded. Another Dixie Dregs tour follows in April. The Steve Morse Band tours from May until November. Deep Purple, using the name 'Dick Pimple', record a jam 'The Turtle Island Shuffle' on June 21 for a Deep Purple Appreciation Society convention. The Steve Morse Band tours again in August and September. Steve Morse takes part in a Guitar Summit tour with Manuel Barrueco, Jorma Kaukonen and Kenny Burrell in October. The Steve Morse Band tours in November.     'Purpendicular' is released in February. Deep Purple tour in the UK in February and March followed by a European tour until July. The show at the Olympia in Paris, France on June 17 is recorded. 'StressFest' is released in April. Deep Purple do another European tour in September and October, followed by tours in Japan in late October and early November and North America in late November and early December. 'Stand Up', like 'The Great Spectacular' released on CD for the first time, and 'Industry Standard' follow a few weeks later. Deep Purple have a writing session in Orlando, FL in May and June without Jon Lord who is finishing a solo album. 'Live At The Olympia ‘96' is released in June. Steve records 'It Came Upon A Midnight Clear' for the Windham Hill Christmas album 'The Carols Of Christmas II'. Deep Purple perform shows in Germany, Lebanon and Switzerland in July and Canada in August. Steve records 'Joy To The World' for the Epic Christmas album 'Merry Axemas'. Deep Purple have a recording session in September and October. 'King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents: Dixie Dregs' is released in September. G3 play at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL on October 15 and Steve Morse joins them for the encore. Another Deep Purple recording session follows in November and December. In December Deep Purple do a House of Blues tour.     Deep Purple have a recording session in January. In January Steve Morse plays three shows with Manuel Barrueco. Dave LaRue joins Steve for some duets. Deep Purple do a short American tour at the end of January and early February. The Steve Morse Band tours in April. 'Abandon' is released in May. Deep Purple tour in Europe in June and July. The Steve Morse Band plays at the Gibson Guitar Festival in July. In August Deep Purple tour in North America with ELP and Dream Theater. For the second part of the show original members Andy West and Allen Sloan join Steve, Rod and T. The finale features both lineups. The shows at The Roxy in Los Angeles, CA on August 26, 27 and 28 are recorded. Deep Purple perform Jon Lord's 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London on September 25 and 26. The Steve Morse Band performs 'Night Meets Light' and 'Take It Off The Top' with the Orchestra. The Steve Morse Band tours in October.
